Get your skates on with Museum on the Move! |

The Museums Keep Moving (MKM) Project is a joint initiative between the five shire counties and metropolitan areas of the West Midlands. The Museum on the Move (or MOM) is a vehicle that, in a similar way to a library bus, travels around the County taking exhibitions to the people of Worcestershire. This initiative grew from the success of the initial Museum on the Move (MOM) project that was launched in 1998 and has led to the commissioning of two new vehicles, the first of which is currently touring the counties of Worcestershire and Warwickshire and the second vehicle operates in Herefordshire and Shropshire. The project is funded through the West Midlands Hub under the ‘Renaissance in the Regions’ project.
The exhibition aboard the bus for 2009 is entitled “Our Games Story”. The exhibition focuses on the revival of the modern Olympic games through the leadership and creativity of the Shropshire-born Victorian philanthropist William Penny Brookes. Objects onboard will include items relating to Penny Brookes himself alongside items from Worcestershire’s County Museum collections. Victorian sporting equipment, such as tennis rackets, clubs and ice skates will be on view and a number of fun, hands-on activities to try. The exhibition also provides an overview of some of Worcestershire’s cultural and sporting heroes past, present and future to link in with the Cultural Olympiad and will let you know how you can take part in local events and perhaps even the next games in 2012.
Museum on the Move exists to challenge rural isolation and social exclusion and to provide access to museums’ services for a variety of audiences. These include visits to schools, sheltered accommodation, disability groups, hospitals, town centres, festivals and shows as well as a range of other venues.
