New adventures at Bristol Zoo Gardens |

A trip to Bristol Zoo takes visitors on a journey of discovery where they can meet over 450 different animal species, including exotic and endangered creatures from across the world. It is an opportunity to experience up-close the wonders of nature and find out more by taking part in trails, animal displays and talks.
More than 39,000 school children of all ages and abilities visit the Zoo every year for inspirational, out-of-classroom learning experiences within the Zoo’s Conservation Education Centre. The Zoo offers a host of different, cross-curricular education sessions which give children real life ‘hands on’ experiences in which they can see, hear, touch and explore the world around them. The sessions engage children about the plight of many creatures in the wild, as well as inspiring them to take positive conservation action – such as through recycling, building a log pile or helping their parents shop responsibly - and support the Government’s Learning Outside the Classroom initiative.
This summer, Bristol Zoo is running its annual Schools Weeks during 6-10th and 13-17th July, during which school groups can enjoy free ‘Meet a Keeper’ sessions and find out what it takes to look after Zoo animals and what goes on behind the scenes. Charles Darwin will also be touring the Zoo to amaze, confound and amuse youngsters with all things evolutionary, as part of a new trail designed for the Zoo’s celebrations of Darwin’s 200th birthday.
Two brand new exhibits will also open their doors to school groups this summer, including Explorers’ Creek, where a flock of colourful parrots will fly down to perch on visitors and even feed from their hands. The naturally inquisitive little birds provide an unforgettable hands-on experience.
Children can also enjoy a spectacular view across the Zoo from its brand new aerial ropes course, ZooRopia which opens at the end of June. The course takes participants alongside gibbons, gorillas and lemurs to finish with a zip wire onto the Zoo’s main lawn.
ZooRopia will be the first ropes course in Europe that is accessible to children as young as five and is set within a zoo. The unique course is designed so that adults and children alike can take part (charges and restrictions will apply), and will be staffed by trained instructors at all times. Special group rates apply for a limited period, see our website for more details.
